The Pocket-Ranger is a compact, ruggedized, and weather-resistant mesh networking device engineered for secure, off-grid communication. Built on the powerful RAK4630 module, it provides a seamless bridge between your smartphone and a decentralized LoRa network.

Whether you are hiking deep into the backcountry, preparing for emergency scenarios, or operating in areas with zero cellular infrastructure, the Pocket-Ranger ensures you stay connected. It enables end-to-end encrypted text messaging and location sharing across a resilient local mesh network.

Key Features

• Weather & Dust Resistance: Built to withstand the elements (official IP rating pending). The housing is sealed with a silicon band between the plastic halves, and a protective silicon sock covers the bottom buttons and ports. It also features a waterproof IP67-rated USB-C connector, a waterproof SMA connector, and an IP67-rated ePTFE membrane over the buzzer hole.
• Dual Platform Compatibility: Fully compatible with Meshtastic® and MESHCORE™ software ecosystems. Use the web flasher located at lowmesh.com.
• High-Performance Hardware: Powered by the RAK4630 module (nRF52840 + SX1262) @ 3.1V for superior range and efficiency.
• GPS & Location Tracking: This version utilizes your connected phone's GPS to share your location over the mesh network. (Note: A dedicated PRO version featuring built-in GPS is coming soon).
• Extended Battery Life: Integrated 2000mAh LiPo battery with NTC protection, providing up to 4 weeks of runtime (usage dependent).
• Versatile Controls: Features a dedicated User Button, Reset Button, and Power Button for tactile operation.

Setup & Usage Instructions

1. Powering On & Connecting

The power button is a recessed toggle button designed to prevent accidental activation in your pocket or pack.

• Turn On: Press the button in completely and release. It may take a try or two due to the recessed design.
• Verify Power: You will hear a faint beep from the rear of the device, and the Green LED will begin flashing a low-power "heartbeat" once per second. Tip: This flash is faint to save battery life; you may need to cup your hand over the device to see it.
• Connect to App: Open the Meshtastic® app on your smartphone and scan for Bluetooth devices.
• Pair: Select "LowMesh_MT_XXXX" from the list and connect using the default PIN: 123456.

2. LED Indicators

• Red LED (Charging): Shines solid red while plugged in. When the LED turns off, charging is complete.
  Note: The smart-charging chip may stop at 95%–98% capacity. This is normal and is an intentional feature designed to preserve the long-term health of your LiPo battery.
• Green LED (Communication): A versatile status light that behaves based on your Meshtastic® app settings. It can be configured to blink upon receiving a message, pulse as a heartbeat, or flash once per second when connected via BLE.

3. User Button Functions

The behavior of the user button depends on which firmware ecosystem you are running.

For Meshtastic®:

• Single Press: Mutes the current notification.
• Double Press: Sends a network ping.
• Triple Press: Toggles GPS (Not applicable on this version; reserved for upcoming PRO version).
• Long Press (4+ seconds): Toggles the internal buzzer on or off.

For MESHCORE™:

• Single Press: 0 hop advert
• Double Press: Flood hop advert
• Triple Press: Toggles the internal buzzer on or off

Firmware Notice: If you flash the device with non-LowMesh approved firmware, functionality and features may vary, and the instructions in this guide may no longer be completely applicable.

Mounting & Portability

The Pocket-Ranger is designed to move with you. Every unit includes:

• Carabiner Lanyard: Quick-detach mounting for easy accessibility during transit.
• Optional holster or strap clip available for purchase separately.
